Buying a car under 18?

Darnell Cutliff: You can legally own a vehicle in your name under the age of 18. If they are co signing for the car they legally own the car as well as you would being the signer. If you want full ownership the car needs to be placed in your name only.

Azzie Trembly: Hello,If you buy the car with your own cash or with their cash, they have to register it for you. When you turn 18, to transfer the title is a personal decision between you and them. The law cannot make them transfer the title. If they co-sign the car, (loan in both names), the titles will definitely be in theirs and they still have control over if they want to transfer the title because they still play a role (co-signing). Unless they take their name off that contract( which is almost impossible) then they might not care and let you have the title....Show more

Tosha Tawney: Sign you can't sign legally binding contracts, you can't even cosign as a minor. You can't even get insurance as a minor, so! you can't even register a vehicle in your name to boot. You end up waiting until you're legal, anyway...

Ermelinda Stalnaker: If they buy the car in their name now, when you turn 18 they'd have to sign the car title over to you. If you don't think they will, then wait till you are 18 as legal documents aren't binding when signed by people under 18.

Robt Betker: You could be the registered owner but until you turn 18 your parents could still do what they want with it.

Bryant Chaudhry: Buy year late model 4 tires and carframe at junkyard: $100 Buy one spare jet engine from used F111 fighter bomber: $17,900 Mount on car frame. You now have the fastest car for under $18,000! Congradulations!!!!!!!!!
