Irvin Guiles: There are two things that are needed in order for you to use the speakers. First, the impedance of the speakers and the impedance of the amplifier in the home theater system must match. Thus if you have 8 ohm speakers and the amplifier is set up for 8 ohm speakers you have a match that would work (the same would be true if you have 4 ohm speakers and the amp is rated for 4 ohm speakers). While mismatched speakers would most likely work, you would have the possibility of it not working well (less volume) or possibly burning out your amp.Second, the power rating of the speakers should be at or above the power rating of the home theater system amp. Omar Phipps: For a lap top or computer you need a 5.1 sound card installed in the computer to get 5.1 surround; if you use a Home Theater you may only get stereo as you will only be outputt! ing a stereo signal some speaker systems have a built-in decoder that will give a pseudo surround experience but some do not so if you feed it a stereo signal that is all you get out at the other end....

Blending and matching speaker brands and styles is fine. This implies the Front speakers should be from a similar producer and designed to cooperate. you simply need to follow the standards twice, once for every amp.
