Which tax is the biggest at the local level?

Frederick Mccoach: Propety taxes since average property tax bill is 10k with some counties paying over 50k

Coleman Deliberato: you would have to compare all the taxes you are charged and see, this would apply only to you however, would not apply to anyone else due the variables you have non control over other people

Ramon Dahlheimer: If you are referring to the tax paid by an individual, it depends on the person's income, where they live, and if they own property. If they own no property, then of course sales tax is a bigger expense. For different income levels, generally lower income folks will pay more in sales tax than they will in property taxes. Sales tax is considered more burdensome to the lower income brackets, and for this reason some locations have a partial exemption on property taxes either based on the value of the property, or the income of the owner. There are a few states that have no sales tax, and of course in these cases, the property tax ! is the biggest one. And, there are states with high sales tax as well as high property taxes, such as New York....Show more

Mario Stricklan: That depends on WHERE you define "local". Sales taxes are different in every state, and sometimes in every county. Property taxes are different in every city and town.
