Chauffer le métal à feu doux. Bien que ce procédé s’appelle le bluing à froid, chauffer doucement le métal du canon avant d’appliquer le bluing peut l’aider à mieux absorber le bluing et à créer une meilleure finition. Chauffez le métal en le laissant au soleil pendant plusieurs heures, à l’aide d’un pistolet chauffant ou d’un sèche-cheveux, ou dans un four conventionnel réglé à son plus bas niveau.
