Brice Greczkowski: I got my statistics from a vegetarian site, which I believe would be inclined to report participation on the high side just due to bias. They reveal that a mere 1/2% (that's just 0.5%) of Americans have vegan diets. See attached link.

Clemente Schoeck: There's a loos statistic around that 8% of the world is vegetarian, and 3% is vegan.I don't really trust that- seeing as at any given point, most of rural China is vegan, and most of INdia ( definitely not the 30% you read about) is vegetarian.For Americans, I'd say the 2% mark is probably close. Americans love their fast food and junk food, and the national dish is a greasy fried cheeseburger. Literally. Most countries have a fruit for a national food.
